Treat Burn Scars WithDermapen Part - II

LASER TATTOO REMOVAL ASSISTED WITH MICRONEEDLING
The average person knows that tattoos can be removed by laser, but what they don’t know is that it isn’t nearly that simple, not by any stretch. For one thing tattoo removal is more painful—and certainly more trouble—than getting the tattoo was in the first place. The cost, hassle and discomfort will depend on the size of the tattoo and the ink colors involved. Black ink and shading will respond more readily than yellows and greens, although some laser wavelengths may still be effective. Also, some tattoos never fully fade away, while others are very resistant to treatment.

More than that, people tend to vastly underestimate the number of treatments it takes to get to the end. Laser manufacturers and some spas or laser treatment centers may claim to be able to remove a tattoo in five or six treatments. The actual number is more like 15 treatments on average, according to Kristen Ward, head esthetician and office manager at Aesthetica Medical Spa in Lindon, Utah. “People come in with unresolved tattoos and say someone else promised them removal in six sessions, and that’s just not the way it works,” she said. In truth, while some situations may exist where the size and color of the tattoo, the health of the individual and other factors come together to provide such an outcome in six sessions, it is not the norm or even close to it.

Enter Dermapen micro needling tattoo removal . About the size of a large felt tip marker, the easy-to-use handheld device features a disposable, sterile tip with an array of eleven surgical steel micro-needles for safe fractional dermal-needling. It is minimally-traumatic fractional micro-wounding via piston-driven needle oscillation is safe to use and may be of benefit to the session, according to Ward who is currently overseeing the device used in that manner—on herself. “I have a 1” by 5” tattoo that’s been resistant to lasers, so we decided to try using Dermapen first, in the hope that it might improve the results.” Confident in its safety, Ward—who is also the staff trainer for every device in the spa—had one of her estheticians use Dermapen on her tattoo immediately before applying normal laser treatment.

After applying topical anesthetic, the user performed three passes of Dermapen (1.5 mm depth, 90 Hz needle insertion speed) over the area. Afterward, a combination vitamin C and E cream was applied, with normal laser treatment soon after (using the Alex TriVantage from Syneron-Candela, 755 nm wavelength, 4.5 mJ, spot size 3). The difference was more than noticeable. “I would characterize the result as at least 60% better improvement than with laser alone in this case,” she said.

While at this stage the result is preliminary (though encouraging), and no actual histological study or analysis has been performed, Ward has a few theories about how Dermapen may be positively affecting the tattoo area. First, the holes in the epidermis created by Dermapen may improve the penetration of laser light and/or improve absorption of the wavelength by the target chromophore (tattoo ink). Another is that Dermapen may break up or otherwise affect more superficial ink that the laser isn’t treating.

“We adjust the spot size of the laser to treat different layers of implanted tattoo ink,” Ward explained, “and some ink may be too superficial to absorb enough energy to cause fracturing of the pigment for subsequent removal by the body’s natural waste removal processes. Dermapen may affect that layer of ink.” Another possibility is that because Dermapen wounding stimulates the healing and debris removal processes of the body, it may create a situation where this stimulation improves removal of fractured ink. “Simply put, fibroblasts are activated and they remove the particles of fractured ink, but only for so long. That’s why some of the tattoo removal result depends on the health of the individual, whose fibroblasts may activate in greater quantity and for a longer time than those of another person.” One, none, or any combination may be true and further study would be necessary before a real conclusion could be drawn.

Ultimately the hope is Dermapen might improve magnitude of outcomes possible with a single session, thus reducing the total number of sessions needed for clearance. It also may help fully resolve tattoos still mildly visible, even after numerous sessions. Ward will be able to tell you in several months. She’s continuing Dermapen of her previously resistant tattoo until it’s resolved. “I’m also going to have them work on another small tattoo I have as well and see how that goes,” she shared. Because of the success of the initial session with Dermapen, Ward expects to begin offering Dermapen-assisted tattoo removal by the end of 2013.

Micro Needling Part - I

DERMAPEN ®

The Dermapen microneedling patented micro needling pen technologies which include SureSpace™ and SafLok™ technology is why Dermapen is the leader in patient safety, comfort and treatment results.

With over 6,000+ Dermapen locations around the world and with millions of patients treated each year Dermapen is the brand practitioners and patients ask for by name.
With Dermapen utilizing SureSpace™ and SafLok™ patented technologies practitioners can now deliver to their patients the safest microneedling treatment possible and at the same time get the best treatment results for their patients.

Dermapen is the world leader in microneedling technology.

Dermapen Microneedling Pen

The Dermapen microneedling pen uses sterile, sealed individual disposable needle cartridges for optimal patient safety, comfort and results. Every Dermapen needle tip has multiple needles, with proprietary technology, penetrating vertically generating small micro skin channels, while stimulating the skins natural ability to heal its self while increasing the production of new collagen.

These channels carry up to 80% more topical nutrients, allowing penetration deep to the skin fibroblasts, feeding the cells found in the dermis and the basal layer. This increases the absorption of active ingredients into the skin, stimulating the repair at a cellular level and accelerating the regeneration of the skin’s epidermal cells.

The treatment is similar to laser treatments, but without the severe side effects or the long recovery time. There are some studies that show it is more effective than traditional microdermabrasion and chemical peels. The disposable needles reduces the risk of cross-contamination and the adjustable depth allows treatment that is adaptable to individual needs.

Dermapen facial treatment is the best solution for reversing the signs of aging!

As we age, we will notice the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles on our face due to the breakdown of collagen and elastin in our skin. Even if you have the best skin, time will take its toll and you are going to face the skin problems. At that time, you will wish your skin to have a younger look that is free from wrinkles and fine lines. For that, you should try the newer Dermapen facial cosmetic treatment that will help you treat the signs of aging by inducing your skin’s own collagen and elastin production.

Micro Needling For Scars Part - I

The Dermapen microneedling device provides an unparalleled response via the fractional delivery of micro-needles, creating micro-injuries to the epidermis and dermis. These micro-injuries to the skin encourage and harness the power of the body’s innate ability to repair the skin through the normal physiology of skin. The first phase begins with the release of the bodies growth factors and the further cascade of new epidermal growth, fibroblast chemotaxis, fibroblast proliferation and matrix production.

This proliferation of the body’s tissue continues to release growth factors from fibroblasts, keratinocytes and monocytes. The second phase of wound healing involves deposition of collagen III, IV and I, elastin, proteoglycans, and GAGs. The last phase results in tissue remodeling where the skins vascular matrix matures and skin tightening. The body’s ability to heal itself is at the heart of this amazing process.

What makes Dermapen Different:

The closest technology to the Dermapen is a fractional laser. A fractional laser “drills holes” in the skin to create a wound healing response and leaves normal tissue around the holes to be a reservoir for fibroblasts and stem cells to migrate into the holes. Fractional radiofrequency devices work on a similar principle and have many of the same side effects as fractional lasers (Yeung et al., 2012). Dermapen also makes holes in the skin to create a wound healing response and leaves normal tissue around the holes. These technologies have similar results, but achieve them in very different ways, and result in very different side effects profiles. The laser uses light to char and obliterate epidermis to produce small pits which vary in diameter and depth, depending on the laser type (Erbium, YAG, CO2; nonablative vs ablative) and manufacturer. Dermapen produces reproducible and consistent holes in the skin.

Side effects differ between technologies. Most fractional lasers leave erythema and edema up to 96 hours after treatment. Resultant downtime is approximately 3-4 days for fractional laser treatments (Gold, 2010). Dermapen treatments result in erythema with slight chance of edema for about 24 hours. Common side effects of fractional lasers are:

Pain (higher in dark skined patients (Mahmoud et al., 2010)

Persistent erythema (Gold 2010)

Infections (viral and bacterial). Facial herpes reported in 10.6% of patients in spite of antiviral prophylaxis (Naouri et al., 2011)

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in up to 18% (Vaiyavatjamai and Wattanakrai, 2011; Chan et al., 2010; Mahmoud et al., 2010; Yeung et al., 2012)

Postinflammatory hypopigmentation – seen in patients up to two years after a laser treatment. Occurs in up to 20% of patients with photo-aged skin (Gold 2001).

Light based therapy is not for all skin types. For example, the indications for use cleared by the FDA may put limits on the skin types that may be treated with a fractional laser. For example, the indications for use may prohibit the use of the laser on Fitzpatrick 4, 5 , and 6 (darker skin colors), for example: “The EXELO2 with the fractional scanning unit is indicated for ablative skin resurfacing in people with skin types 1, 2 or 3 based on Fitzpatrick skin type scale.” K090639. The fractional holes “drilled” by the laser are a function of skin type, skin thickness, and vascularity. Dermapen does not rely on skin color to turn light into heat.

A major complication from light based therapy includes Postinflamatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) in Oriental, Mediterranean, and African skin types (Yeung et al., 2012; Metelitsa and Alster 2010; Chan et al., 2007). PIH presents as symmetric hyperpigmented macules and patches on the face. PIH is one of the most common and distressing pigmentary disorders seen in dermatology clinics. It is notably difficult to treat and may relapse.

MICRONEEDLING ACNE SCARS WITH DERMAPEN®

Scars are areas of fibrous tissue (fibrosis) that replace normal skin after injury. A scar results from the biological process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues of the body. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound (e.g. after accident, disease, surgery) results in some degree of scarring. Scar tissue is the same protein (collagen) as the tissue that it replaces, but the fiber composition of the protein is different. Instead of a nice “basket weave” formation of fibers, the collagen in scar tissue is aligned in a single direction resulting in a pronounced and thicker appearance. Acne treatments for most are long term and can result in scarring. There are multiple causes of acne including hormone dysfunction, allergies, environmental factors and nutrition deficiencies. Acne scars result after skin follicles become blocked by excessive oils and the physiology of keratin and old skin cells trigger an inflammatory response reaction. The skin will attempt to heal and the scar tissue results as the collagen becomes deformed and thickens. Acne scars are categorized as being “ice- pick”, “rolling” or “boxcar

Micro Needling Eyebrows

The newly redesigned Dermapen® disposable tips will be the first micro-needling tip to come equipped with SURSPACE™ Technology. SURSPACE™ Technology is the algorithmically calculated, equidistant spacing and positioning of the individual micro-needles from one another. The redesigned tip now comes with a total of 12 micro-needles, nine around the perimeter of the tip and the remaining three in the center. Precisely aligning the micro-needles drastically diminishes any discomfort that may be associated with micro-needling. The new tip also features a scalloped edge, which minimizes surface tension and thus shortening the amount of time needed to perform the needling session. The scalloped grooves on the needle tip face reduce suction within the tip housing decreasing epidermal damage even further. In addition to these new advancements, the updated tips incorporate two opposing vents that highly restrict the possibility of backflow of bodily fluids into the body of the handpiece, eliminating the possibility of cross-contamination.

Can I reuse the tips?

The Dermapen sterile micro-needle tips are designed to be disposable and are for a single-use only to prevent cross-contamination and infection. The micro-needling tips cannot be properly decontaminated due to the materials used in the construction of the micro-needle tip cartridge itself. Tip cartridges CANNOT be re-used, as patient safety is of paramount importance. The Dermapen’s design permits the user to change the needle tip cartridge after each Dermapen needling session. A low consumable cost, combined with little to no downtime for the patient, makes Dermapen an ideal solution for any medical spa or clinic.

Proudly designed and engineered in the USA, these features, including SURSPACE™ Technology, allow for easier perforations to soft tissue, while achieving the safest, most effective micro-needling experience. SURSPACE™ is a trademark of Dermagen International, LLC. Derma Pen, LLC is the authorized distributor of SURSPACE™ in the United States. Dermapen® is a registered trademark of Derma Pen, LLC

Micro Needling Side Effects

ABOUT DERMAPEN

Dermapen uses multiple needles that vertically pierce the skin. This enhances rejuvenation results and is far safer for the client because there is much less epidermal damage.

The automatic vibrating function of the Dermapen increases the effectiveness of treatment by increasing absorption of products, while reducing pain and discomfort.

Dermapen is just as effective as ablative treatments such as Fraxel, IPL, Laser Resurfacing, and Chemical Peels. The most amazing benefit is that Dermapen's pricing is a fraction of the leading alternatives.

The Dermapen treatment triggers collagen production through a microneedling technique. It can be used to improve scarring (acne scarring & keloid scars), hyperpigmentation and stretch marks. It can also be used to retexturize the skin. The Dermapen can also help with skin tightening!

Dr. Mozersky discovered Dermapen at a conference in early 2011, and when he saw it he immediately thought it could be used to deliver platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which he had trouble delivering to his patients in a tolerable manner despite promising outcomes. He does not claim to have invented the technique, which he basically describes as follows: Chemically-activated PRP is painted onto the skin. Dermapen creates patterns of controlled injury that heal quickly but drive the PRP into the skin to promote improved penetration of the various growth factors and other beneficial components. He recommends it for most patients; in his experience it seems to decrease the number of treatments needed and also improves the overall result (as well as patient satisfaction). He supposes one could skip PRP activation or paint PRP on after creating the wound zones but has not studied any of these techniques in a structured clinical trial.

Pigment Stabilizer

Use Direction: Apply Pigment Stabilizer to the targeted area directly onto where aging spot, intercellular melasma, post-laser hyperpigmentation, laser induced erythema, inflammation, free radical generation, and non-laser related pigmen- tation problems.

Cautions: Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. For external use only.

"I have been utilizing the Dermapen in my practice over the last two years. Recently I was able to try the new tip with the scalloped edge. Wow! Words cannot express how happy I was with the new tip. The scalloped tip glides easily over the skin with no dragging or catching. This tip by far exceeds my expectations! With this new improved tip the treatment is much more enjoyable for the patient! Great work Dermapen!"

How Does Micro-needling with Dermapen Work?

The purpose of micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy), is to stimulate the production of new collagen, using our skin’s ability to heal itself. The tiny needles used in micro-needling make microscopic channels in the skin, triggering the body’s healing response: it stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. You are essentially encouraging your skin to continue healing through this micro-needling process. The result is increased blood supply to the skin layers and the formation of more collagen and elastin (which give your skin elasticity and firmness). Dermapen helps optimize this process.

The most amazing benefit is that Dermapen's pricing is a fraction of the leading alternatives
